Areas of Practice  >  Real Estate and Environmental Law

For more than 35 years, the firm has practiced in every conceivable area of real estate law including adverse possession, air rights, annexation, condominium conversions and representation of condominium associations and other types of homeowner's associations, landlord and tenant matters, land trusts and residential real estate closings. Special note is given to the following areas of concentration:

Zoning/Land Planning and Development
The firm has represented dozens of clients with respect to matters involving land use changes. Those clients have ranged from developers of single-family residential subdivisions, planned unit developments, commercial shopping centers, gravel pits and landfill operators.

Real Estate Taxation
The firm has regularly represented clients before County assessment officials throughout the State of Illinois on all types of multiple-family residential, commercial and industrial properties. Said representation has included regular practice before the State of Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board with two successful appeals to the 2nd District, Illinois Appellate Court in Elgin.

Purchase and Sale Contracts
The firm regularly represents sellers and purchasers of all types of real estate, including single family residential properties.

Landlord and Tenant
Our lawyers have represented both landlords and tenants on a regular basis. Such representation includes all lease issues from original drafting of leases and riders to prosecuting actions for breach of lease, by either landlord or tenant.

We would be happy to talk to anyone with respect to any question they might have concerning any real estate issue.

Environmental Law
Mr. Bishop was a guest speaker at the First USEPA Environmental Conference in Washington, DC and spoke on matters pertaining to the regulation of landfills. He has represented numerous landfill operators and completed the University of Wisconsin (Madison) Engineering School program on Landfill Studies. He has authored articles on "wetlands" and worked on many projects requiring US Army Corps of Engineer Permits.

Available to the firm are nationally recognized experts in all areas of engineering, ground water hydrology, wetland classification and delineation and other professions closely related to the environmental field. While practicing in the State of Nevada, Mr. Bishop has dealt with the endangered "desert tortise" and consulted on behalf of opponents to the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump site.
